The Charlottetown Islanders signed free agent forward Spenser Cobbold on Tuesday.
He had four assists and 10 penalty minutes in seven games this season with the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League. He was among the league leaders in fighting majors last year with 10.
“He’s a 19-year-old high-energy forward,” Dwyer said. “By all accounts … he’s a gritty, speedy kind of character player.”
The five-foot-nine, 170-pound left-winger from Stittsville, Ont., skated with some of his teammates Tuesday afternoon in Charlottetown.
He played two previous seasons with Mississauga, recording 17 goals, 21 assists and 149 penalty minutes in 126 games.
“We continue to work on improving our hockey club,” said general manager Grant Sonier. “Spenser will bring a pugilistic approach to the game that we are looking for on a nightly basis from our hockey team.
