Southside prevails in penalty-filled game with Falcons
CRAPAUD – The Crapaud-based Southside Lynx is off to a hot start in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League regular season.
The Lynx edged the Sherwood Falcons 4-3 in a penalty-filled game on Saturday night to improve to 4-0-0. It was also the second win in as many nights for the Lynx, who trimmed the Summerside Source for Sports Capitals 7-1 on Friday night.
In other league action Saturday evening, the visiting Souris Hawks upended the North River Flames 5-3.
Lynx 4 Falcons 2
At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud, Colton Dawson had two goals and an assist while Alex MacLeod netted a brace for Southside, which has scored a league-high 23 goals. Marshall Thomas, Sawyer Mayne, Andy Murphy and Rob Miller were all credited with single assists.
Brad Milligan (2) and Brady Sinnott (1-1) answered for the Falcons (1-2-0).
The Lynx led 2-0 after the first period, but the Falcons answered back in the middle frame to tie the score 2-2 following 40 minutes.
Dylan Garnhum earned the goaltending win while Steve Lannigan took the loss.
Referee Brett Servos had a busy night, assessing 12 of 22 minor penalties against the Falcons. Each team also picked up three fighting majors, two game misconducts, one double game misconduct and four 10-minute misconducts.
Lynx 7 Capitals 1
At The Plex in Slemon Park, Colton Dawson and Cody Dawson each scored twice to lead the Lynx. Rob Miller, Spencer Dougay and Marshall Thomas also scored in the win.
Alex MacDonald netted the lone goal for Summerside (0-2-0).
After a scoreless first period, Southside took a 3-1 cushion into the second intermission.
Winning goaltender was John Miller.
Referee Justin DesRoches called seven minors against each team. The Caps also picked up one 10-minute misconduct.
Hawks 5 Flames 3
At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Gabriel Leger (1-3), JD Farrell (1-2), Dereck Cormier (1-1), Luke MacDonald (1-1) and Darcy Nicholson found the back of the net for Souris, which was playing its first game of the regular season.
Max MacDonald (1-2), Cameron MacMurdo and Ryan McGuigan answered for the Flames (1-1-1).
North River led 2-1 after the first period, and Souris answered back to take a 4-2 lead after the second.
Winning goaltender was Seth Nicholson.
Referee Richard Johnson called a total of eight minor penalties – six of those against the Flames.
