The UPEI Panthers suffered their first loss of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey season Saturday night.
The Panthers lost 2-1 to the Acadia Axemen at MacLauchlan Arena.
Acadia opened the scoring midway through the first on Liam Heelis goal from Alex Beaton.
Dana Fraser tied it at 6:35 of the second with Jordan Mayer recording the assist.
Heelis scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 7:58 of the third for the game-winning goal.
Evan Mosher stopped 27 shots for the win while Mavric Parks made 25 saves in the loss.
The Panthers and Axemen are both 3-1 and tied for second place behind UNB (4-0).
UPEI is on the road Friday in Moncton and at home next Saturday to host St. Thomas.
