Kensington beats Charlottetown 4-3 in major midget hockey
The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild scored four second period goals Friday to win its first game in team history.
The Wild, which moved from Cornwall during the off-season, downed the Charlottetown Mark’s Work Wearhouse Islanders 4-3 in New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League action at MacLauchlan Arena.
Cole Hackett scored twice, including the game winner, while Austin Taylor and Dillon Wall each added a goal and an assist.
Sam Jay had two helpers while singles went to Evan Millman, Lucas Beaulieu, Jesse Jay and Abel Arsenault.
Johnathon Larter scored two goals for Charlottetown while Jonathan Arsenault had a single. Assists went to Shawn Corney (2), Calen MacInnis, Cody McPhee and Hunter McIntyre.
The Islanders led 2-0 after the first and trailed 4-3 going to the third period.
Bradley Shea made 25 saves on 28 shots for the victory, while Sam Walsh stopped 35 of 39 in the loss.
Kensington (1-4) plays the Rivermen Saturday in Miramichi, N.B., at 7:30 p.m. while the Islanders (0-4-0-1) host the Fredericton Canadiens on Sunday at 1:45 p.m.
