Brett Gallant captained the 2008-09 Summerside Western Capitals of the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).
REGINA – Brett Gallant of Summerside played in his first-ever National Hockey League game on Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old son of Mike (Pinky) and Patricia Gallant was in the New York Islanders’ lineup for a pre-season game against the Calgary Flames, and it didn’t take long for the former Summerside Western Capitals’ captain to make his presence felt.
Gallant tangled in what has been described as a toe-to-toe bout with well-respected NHL tough guy Brian McGratton just 1:59 into the contest.
Gallant has played the last three years with the Islanders’ American Hockey League affiliate, Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Defenceman Thomas Hickey, who has family connections to the Albany area, also played for the Islanders.
