Islanders take Game 3 of major midget series

Damon MacDonald recorded the hat trick as the Charlottetown Mark’s Work Wearhouse Islanders beat the Cornwall Superior Sanitation Thunder 8-5 Sunday in P.E.I. major midget playoff action.

The Islanders now lead the best-of-seven provincial final 2-1.

Sam Jay, Cody McPhee, Zack MacEwan, Tyler Doucette and Johnny Young also scored in the win. Alex Gallant had four assists while MacEwan and MacDonald added two. Shawn Corney, Michael White, Matt Cox and Alex Cyr chipped in single helpers.

Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud led the Thunder with two goals while Jonathan Arsenault, Curtis McGregor and Ryan Steele scored singles. Blaze Bridges had two assists and Steele, Alexander McQuaid, McGregor, Parker Ronahan, Logan Doiron, Brock Richard and Max Morrison each had one.

Daryl MacCallum stopped 39 shots for the win while Alex Kelly made four saves before being replaced by Bradley Shea 6:39 into the first period. Shea made 20 saves.

Game 4 is Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. in Cornwall while Game 5 is Sunday in Charlottetown at 1:45 p.m.

The Islanders led 5-0 after the first period and 6-3 after two.
