UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Brett Gallant of Summerside has agreed to terms on a one-year, entry-level contract with the New York Islanders.

The National Hockey League team announced the signing earlier today.

The 24-year-old Gallant, is in the midst of his fourth professional season, and third year with the Islanders’ American Hockey League affiliate, Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He has appeared in 37 games with the Sound Tigers this season, registering 174 penalty minutes – good enough for third in the AHL.

Gallant captained the 2008-09 Summerside Western Capitals, who won the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) regular-season and playoff championships, and the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian junior A hockey championship.

    Answer to Benny's Comment.... If the goal scorers in the League were not such babies and fought their own battles there wouldn't be a need for the Tough Guys. The babies that you like so much are not going to play hockey both ways . Gretzky wouldn't of set the records he did if it wasn't for Dave Semenko to protect him. So when people like Benny that say "what do they need Brett for" certainly don't know hockey and never played it.
