The P.E.I. Rocket made it three wins in a row against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Jack Nevins scored the game-winner at 11:39 of the first period as the host Rocket defeated the Eagles 2-1 at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. All three goals were scored in the first period.
Louick Marcotte had the other Rocket marker while Troy Vance, Josh Currie, Alexis Pépin and Matthew Bursey, on his 19th birthday, had assists.
Charles-Eric Légaré from Jonathan Oligny scored for the Screaming Eagles.
Maxime Lagace made 24 saves in the win while David Honzik was peppered with 46 shots in the Eagles’ crease.
The Rocket outshot Cape Breton 19-10 and 21-6 in the first and second periods, respectively. The Screaming Eagles outshot P.E.I. 9-6 in the third.
The win came a night after the Rocket pounded the Eagles 8-0 in a game that got chippy at the end. Each team received two minors during Friday’s game.
P.E.I. is 28-20-2 while Cape Breton is 10-33-3-5.
The Rocket are off this weekend, returning to action Thursday when they travel to Saint John to play the Sea Dogs at 7 p.m. Its next home game is Friday when the Rocket hosts Rimouski at 7 p.m.
