UPEI Panthers forward Chris Desousa scores a goal on a second period breakaway against St. F.X. Friday in Charlottetown.

The UPEI Panthers scored three short-handed goals in thumping the St. F.X. X-Men 8-2 Friday in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.

The Panthers led 4-0 after one and 5-2 after 40 minutes of play.

Dana Fraser and Chris Desousa each had two goals and two assists in the win.

Tyler Brown, Jordan Knox, Mike MacIsaac and Colin Beck added singles.

Matthew Maione had three assists for the Panthers while singles went to Knox, MacIsaac, Brown, Alex Wall, Cole MacMillan and Nathan McQuaid.

Wayne Savage stopped 18 shots for the win while Drew Owsley stopped eight of 11 shots before being replaced by Joseph Perricone, who stopped 26 of 31 shots.

Both teams now have identical 13-9-2 records. UPEI meets Saint Mary’s (16-6-2) Saturday at 7 p.m. The conference’s second-place Huskies lost 4-2 to UNB (19-5) Friday night.
