Alex Bradley scored two goals 31 seconds apart in the first period and the Moncton Flyers never looked back, beating the Charlottetown Mark’s Work Wearhouse Islanders 6-2 Sunday in New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League action.
With the Flyers up 2-0, Bradley scored from the slot for his first of three on the afternoon. The Islanders were trailing 4-0 after the first period and could not recover.
Jonathon Larter converted a two-on-one pass from Willie Gaudet to cut the deficit to three 15 minutes into the second period. Sam Jay also drew an assist on the game.
The Flyers scored twice more before the period ended for a 6-1 lead. Moncton outshot the Islanders 22-4 in the period and 48-18 in the game.
Michael White scored an unassisted goal 3:46 into the third to round out the scoring.
Alex Collette made 16 saves for the win while Sam Walsh stopped 11 of 15 shots in the first period before being replaced by Daryl MacCallum to start the second. MacCallum made 31 saves.
Moncton improved to 20-4-1-1 and sits atop the league while Charlottetown falls to 14-12-1-2.
It was the second win in as many days for the Flyers on Prince Edward Island.
They defeated the Cornwall Superior Thunder 3-1 Saturday with Bradley scoring a pair of power-play goals and Joey Richard tallying the third for the Flyers.
Blaze Bridges from Alexander McQuaid and Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud replied for Cornwall.
The game was tied 0-0 after the first and 1-1 after 40 minutes.
Maxim Landry stopped 26 shots for the win while Alex Kelly made 33 saves in the loss.
Cornwall (9-14-1-3) is in last place in the six-team league.
The Thunder travels to Saint John Friday and hosts Fredericton Saturday at 8 p.m. The Islanders go to Moncton Saturday before hosting Saint John Sunday at 1:45 p.m. at MacLauchlan Arena.
