The P.E.I. Rocket allowed four first period goals and could not recover Saturday, losing 5-2 to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Three of the goals in the opening 20 minutes were scored on the power play. P.E.I.’s Jimmy Oligny was given two game misconducts, one for abuse of officials and the other for physical abuse of officials, midway through the first period.
Louick Marcotte and Patrick McGrath were each given game misconducts for checking to the head later in the game.
The Rocket (25-19-2) trailed 4-0 after the first and 5-0 going to the third.
Victor Provencher, from Matej Beran and Anthony Cortese, scored at 16:37 to break Christopher Gibson’s shutout bid.
Nathan Yetman added a short-handed goal with nine seconds remaining in the game. Erik Robichaud and Maxime Lagacé had assists.
Sébastien Sylvestre and Guillaume Asselin each had a goal and two assists for Chicoutimi (23-20-2-2). Simon Tremblay, Lukas Sedlak and Laurent Dauphin also scored in the win.
Guillaume Cloutier had three assists while single helpers went to Charles Hudon, Sedlak and Scott Carrier.
Gibson stopped 29 shots in the win while Lagacé made 36 in the loss.
P.E.I. returns home after a 1-2 road trip. They play Wednesday in Moncton and Saturday in Syndey, N.S.
