Summerside’s Doug MacLean will be behind the bench in January for the 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Halifax.
The former NHL coach will be an assistant coach as will his fellow Sportsnet hockey analyst Nick Kypreos. The game will be held Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.
“I’m thrilled to be coaching in the prospects game,” MacLean said. “These are the best draft-eligible players and this is a great opportunity to showcase their talents against each other and in front of all NHL management.”
MacLean, who will assist head coach Mike McPhee on Team Orr. Kypreos will assist head coach Don Cherry.
Captained by Portland Winterhawks’ defenceman Seth Jones, Team Orr will look to defend its two-year winning streak with the help of alternates Hunter Shinkaruk (Medicine Hat Tigers) and Sean Monahan (Ottawa 67’s). Headlining Team Cherry is 17-year-old sensation and hometown favourite Nathan MacKinnon as captain. MacKinnon will be joined by fellow Halifax Moosehead Jonathan Drouin and Darnell Nurse of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The game showcases the CHL’s top-40 NHL draft-eligible players.
