The UPEI hockey Panthers should know by Tuesday the results of a review of a hit by Mason Wilgosh last month in Wolfville, N.S.

Atlantic University Sport executive director Phil Currie could not say much Monday when contacted by The Guardian.

“The review is complete,” Currie said late Monday afternoon. “The decision has been made, I just need to inform the effected parties.”

Wilgosh hit Christopher Owens midway through the Nov. 30 game between the Panthers and the Acadia Axemen. He received a major and match penalties and a game misconduct.

Owens was taken to hospital following the hit and released, according to news reports.

The Panthers lost the game 3-1 and entered the Christmas break having lost six of its last seven games. They return to league action Jan. 4 when they host the Dalhousie Tigers.

Wilgosh, 21, is a first-year forward from Winnipeg who played five seasons with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League.
