Jimmy Oligny and Josh Currie each scored a pair of goals as the P.E.I. Rocket defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes 6-1 Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Louick Marcotte and Victor Provencher each added singles in the victory, which improves P.E.I. to 4-2-0-0 on the season. The loss dropped Shawinigan to 2-3-0-1.
Defencemen Ryan Graves and Tomas Pavelka each had a pair of assists for the Rocket while singles went to Ben Duffy, Alex Micallef, Alexandre Chenier-Allard, Currie and Marcotte.
The Rocket scored 1:50 into the game and held a 3-0 lead after seven minutes in front of 2,841 fans in Shawinigan.
The Rocket outshot the Cataractes 32-27
Antoine Bibeau recorded the victory. Chase Gaudet allowed four goals on 15 shots before being replaced by Marvin Cupper.
Peter Sakaris broke up Bibeau’s shutout bid with eight minutes to play in the third period.
The Rocket was 1-for-6 on the power play while the Cataractes was 1-for-9.
P.E.I. completes its three games in three nights road trip today with a 5 p.m. Atlantic meeting with the expansion Sherbrooke Phoenix (0-7-0-0). The trip started Friday with a 6-2 loss to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
