Eric Locke of Digby, N.S., leads after four rounds of Holland College Hurricanes men’s golf team qualifying.

Locke posted rounds of 69, 73, 69 and 73 during the first four sessions and is a total 4-under par.

Four more rounds are scheduled during the next two weeks. Rounds 7 and 8 go Sept. 13 and 14 at Fox Meadow Golf Course in Stratford.

Brett Wilson, a Sussex, N.B., native, is second with a 3-under par while Justin Shanks is third at 9-over par. Rounds continue Saturday and Sunday at Dundurave and Brudenell.

The Hurricanes have 28 players trying out for 10 positions on the team. Those 10 will practice with the team over the fall and winter while the coaching staff selects five players to represent the Hurricanes at several tournaments, including the national golf championships in October in Quebec.

The Hurricanes men were the 2013 conference champions while Locke is the defending individual men’s champ.

On the women’s side, Jaylene Holmes-Tang, the loan Hurricanes female competitor, is preparing for a busy tournament schedule as well as her first year in the golf club management program.

The ‘Canes open the fall season Saturday, Sept. 20, at Mactaquac Golf Course.
