Flag football nationals begin today at UPEI

Flags will be flying at the 2014 national under-16, under-18 flag football championships today through Sunday at UPEI.

Thirteen provincial flag football teams from as far west as Saskatchewan will clash in three age divisions for national bragging rights.

Divisions include under-18 female (on Field 3), under-16 male (on Field 4) and under-16 female (Field 2).

Games start today at 9 a.m., when P.E.I.’s under-16 male team begins its run for gold against Manitoba.

The P.E.I. under-16 female team starts its tourney today, at 11 a.m., versus Quebec.

P.E.I. doesn’t have an under-18 female entry.

The under-16 female quarter-final goes Saturday at 1 p.m., while semifinals are Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.

The bronze medal game is Sunday at 1 p.m., followed by the gold medal game at 2 p.m.

In under-16 male, the semifinals are Sunday at 9 a.m. The bronze medal game is at 1 p.m., the gold medal contest at 3 p.m.

The under-18 semifinals start Sunday at 9 a.m., followed by the bronze medal game at 1 p.m. and the gold medal game at 4 p.m.
