The matchups are set for this weekend’s P.E.I. Tackle Football League semifinals.
The road to the Hilton and Potato Bowl begins Friday with Summerside hosting Cornwall at 7 p.m. in bantam division action.
John Turner’s Summerside team offence has been very dominated all season long and they look to get back to the title game for third time in four years. Their opponent is the squad that won the inaugural Hilton Bowl, as the bantam league now has completed its fourth season.
The Charlottetown Privateers host Cumberland Saturday at 4 p.m. in Cornwall in the other semifinal.
Cumberland, which joined the league this season, has had a strong season going 4-2. The Privateers are last season’s Hilton bowl winners and look to defend their title starting this weekend.
The undefeated Souris Wildcats begin their defence of their Potato Bowl by hosting the Cornwall Timberwolves on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Souris. The Wildcats won both games with the Wolves this season and a victory in this game would send them back to the Potato Bowl looking for their sixth straight title.
A hard working, determined group from Cornwall stands in their way. The second match up in the varsity division has the Charlottetown Privateers hosting the runner-up in last year’s final, the Summerside Cooke Clippers.
The Privateers have had a much-improved season this year after graduating several members of their Hilton Bowl finalist from a year ago. The semifinal is expected to be a tight matchup between two balanced teams. Game time is Saturday at 7 p.m. in Cornwall.
The semifinal winners will meet on the Football P.E.I. championship weekend on Nov. 9 at UPEI.
