P.E.I. rink plays twice Tuesday

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALTA. – P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt is now 2-2 (won-lost) at the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Suzanne Birt intently follows a shot during the 2016 provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Birt, third stone Robyn MacPhee, second stone Meaghan Hughes and lead Marie Christianson dropped a 5-4 decision to Alberta’s Chelsea Carey in Monday night’s late draw in round-robin action at the Canadian women’s curling championship.

It was the only game of Day 3 for the Birt rink, which curls out of the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

Carey, who scored a deuce with the hammer in the 10th end for the win, is the only undefeated team – 5-0 – in the 12-team event.

The game was tight throughout as neither team led by more than one point. Carey opened up a 1-0 lead in the second end, but Birt went on to hold 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3 advantages.

Tuesday, Birt takes on McCarville (3-1) in the morning and Nova Scotia’s Jill Brothers (2-2) in the evening draw.
