Suzanne Birt and her Charlottetown Curling Complex team will represent Prince Edward Island at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Birt defeated clubmate Kim Dolan 5-4 in Monday afternoon’s provincial Scotties at the Montague Curling Rink.

Birt scored a deuce in the eight to take a 5-2 advantage and Dolan scored singles the next two ends, but it was not enough.

Birt opened the scoring with a single in the second. Dolan tied it in the third before Birt scored one in the fourth and stole another in the fifth to take 3-1 lead. Dolan scored in the sixth to cut the deficit to one.

Birt has skipped nine teams to national women’s championship while Dolan has won 10 provincial titles.

The national Scotties takes place from Feb. 20 to 28 in Grande Prairie, Alta.

Dolan defeated Birt 8-6 in Monday’s first playoff game.

Birt's rink is comprised of third Robyn Green, second Meaghan Hughes, lead Marie Christianson and coach Danny Christianson.
