Jackson, Dewar win opening draws at Scotties

Lisa Jackson scored five in the fifth end Friday to double Sarah Fullerton 10-5 in the opening draw of the P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Montague Curling Rink.

Jackson also scored a deuce in the first and singles in the third, eighth and the final ninth end.

Fullerton had two in the fourth and seventh ends and a single in the sixth.

Jackson will play Suzanne Birt’s rink at 3 p.m.

Tammy Dewar scored a deuce in the 10th for a 7-6 victory over Shelly Bradley in the other morning draw.

Dewar opened with two in the second before Bradley tied it in the third. Dewar scored singles in the fourth and fifth ends to take a 4-2 lead. The teams traded singles the next two ends before Bradley scored two in the eighth and one in the ninth to take a 6-5 lead heading to the 10th.

Dewar plays Kim Dolan at 3 p.m. while Fullerton and Bradley play Saturday at 9 a.m. in the six-team, modified triple-knockout tournament.
