Island rinks earn cash in Minnesota

P.E.I.'s Suzanne Birt rink reached the quarter-finals at the Asham U.S. Open of Curling in Blaine, Minn., but lost 7-3 to Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay on Sunday.

Team Birt, with a 3-2 win-loss record, returned home with $1,250 for their quarter-final finish.

In the men's section, P.E.I.'s Adam Casey rink picked up $1,000, losing 7-3 to Minnesota's Craig Brown in a quarter-final playoff match.

Casey finished 2-3, notching wins over Minnesota rinks skipped by Mike Farbelow and Stephen Dropkin, but losing to Minnesota's Pete Fenson, Ontario's John Epping, and Brown.
