Prince Edward Island split its games Monday at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Montreal.
The Kim Dolan rink (2-3) from the Charlottetown Curling Complex beat Ontario 7-5 before losing 6-4 to Newfoundland and Labrador in the evening draw.
The Heather Strong rink from the Bally Haly Country Club in St. John’s, N.L., scored two in the 10th to break a 4-4 tie. P.E.I. scored singles in the first, third, fifth and eighth ends while Newfoundland had a deuce in the second and singles in the fourth and sixth.
Against Ontario, the Dolan rink led 2-1 after four ends and scored three in the fifth. Ontario’s Allison Flaxey responded with a deuce in the sixth and the teams traded singles in the next two ends as Dolan took a 6-4 lead. Ontario scored a single in the ninth, but P.E.I. responded with a single in the 10th.
The team, which includes third Rebecca Jean MacDonald, second Sinead Dolan and lead Michala Robison, plays Alberta’s Val Sweeting today at 3 p.m. and Saskatchewan’s Stefanie Lawton at 8:30 p.m. Both times are ADT.
