Smith rink picks up win at Canadian junior curling championship

The Veronica Smith rink scored a deuce in the 10th Wednesday to defeat Yukon at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian junior curling championships in Liverpool, N.S.

The Island team is 3-4 in the women’s seeding pool.

Smith scored singles in the first and second ends before the Yukon scored three in the next two ends. The teams traded singles in the sixth and seventh as Yukon took a 4-3 lead.

The teams traded deuces in the eighth and ninth ends.

The Cornwall Curling Club rink, which consists of third Chloe McCloskey, second Sabrina Smith, lead Katie Fullerton and coach Bill Hope, plays Nunavut at 6:30 p.m.

The Kyle Holland rink (1-6) was idle on the men’s side on Wednesday. The team, consisting of third Tony Nabuurs, second Alex Sutherland, lead Taylor McInnis and coach Angela Hodgson, plays Nunavut Thursday at 2 p.m.
