Prince Edward Island's coaching staff has been set for the 2016 Canada Cup and 2017 Canada Games.
Stratford's Jason Monaghan will be the head coach, while Pleasant Grove's Bob Doyle and Summerside's Darren Gallant will be the assistants.
The staff will lead the P.E.I. Youth Selects at the Canada Cup in Fort McMurray, Alta., and the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg. Player identification camps are expected to begin in the early spring.
Monaghan coached the Selects for three seasons, the bantam all-star team twice and a provincial junior team once. He played and coached the Charlottetown Gaudet's Auto Body Islanders of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League, played in the Kings Count Baseball League and on several provincial teams. He is the owner/head instructor of the Eastern Baseball Academy in Stratford.
Doyle was the Island's head coach at the 2009 Canada Games and an assistant on Desi Doyle's staff in 2013.
He has been on coaching staffs for six Youth Selects squads, the head coach of the 2011 midget all-star team, and the head coach for various AAA teams in the old East Royalty and Sherwood/Parkdale associations on top of his provincial team duties. Doyle pitched for several East Royalty teams in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Gallant has been heavily involved in coaching teams in the Richmond and Summerside areas during the past few seasons, leading them to provincial and Atlantic medals. He was a member of the coaching staff of the provincial peewee team in 2015.
Gallant was a top outfielder with several provincial teams, Morell junior and senior clubs in the late 1990s, and earned a tryout with the Canadian national junior team.
