The P.E.I. Carpenter’s Union 1338 Juniors split a doubleheader Thursday in Summerside with the Metro Mudcats in New Brunswick Junior Baseball League action.
P.E.I. won the opener 5-2 and dropped the finale 3-1.
In the opener, the Mudcats opened the scoring in the third before P.E.I. tied it in the fourth and went ahead on Grant Grady’s two-run triple in the sixth. The host squad stretched the lead in the sixth on Brady Arsenault’s two-run single.
Kyle Donahoe’s RBI single ended the scoring in the seventh.
Tyson Blue went the distance for the complete game victory, striking out seven, while Kyle Donovan was tagged with the loss.
Arsenault and Grady each had three hits while J.J. Oram and Brady McQuaid added a pair. Donahoe had three hits for Metro.
In the nightcap, the teams traded single runs in the first inning before Metro went ahead in the fourth on Chris Marcoux’s RBI single and added an insurance run in the seventh on Marcoux’s suicide squeeze.
Sam Lund struck out 12 for the win while Arsenault struck out eight in the loss. Each pitcher allowed four hits while pitching complete games.
Oram had two hits for P.E.I., Nick MacPhail had an RBI double and Tyler Arsenault added doubled.
P.E.I. travels to Chatham for a pair of games today before returning home to host Saint John on Sunday in a doubleheader starting 1 p.m. at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.
