Mike Roberts had a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday as the Charlottetown Jays defeated the first-place Morell Chevies 3-2 in Kings County Baseball League action.
The Chevies scored two runs in the top of the first inning off Jays’ starter Clark Gallant at Memorial Field.
The Jays scored a run in the fourth and tied it up in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double by Dan O’Shea (2-for-3), followed by an RBI double by Brodie Hughes.
O’Shea held the Chevies scoreless in the top of the seventh inning and would pick up the win. In the bottom half the Jays led off the inning with a Josh McKinnon single off losing pitcher Troy Coffin, followed by a Kris O’Brien bunt single to set the stage for Roberts, who finished the night 3-for-4.
Top batters for the Chevies were Scott Ellsworth 2-for-3 and Colin Hansen 1-for-3.
Charlottetown’s next game is Sunday at 4 p.m. in Peakes against the defending champion Peakes Bombers.
