The Charlottetown John Brown Grille Fawcetts went 4-for-4 to win a fastpitch tournament in Nova Scotia on the weekend.
The Fawcetts won both games Saturday at the Shooters Restaurant and Lounge Men’s Fastpitch Tournament in Lantz, N.S. They defeated the Carl Anthony Trucking Charros 12-5 in six innings in Sunday’s semifinal and the Halifax Pepperjacks 10-2 in five innings in the championship game.
“We hit the ball hard all weekend,” said first baseman Mark Arsenault. “We got hot, we played good defence and we got good pitching.”
Mitch Hardy picked up both of Sunday’s wins for the Fawcetts while Rene d’Entremont took the loss in the final. Steve Langley and Steve Noonan recorded victories on Saturday for Charlottetown.
Arsenault and Hardy each hit three home runs during the weekend while Langley had a strong day at the plate on Saturday to lead a balanced Fawcetts’ lineup.
“Tyler Doucette hit the ball hard all weekend too,” Arsenault said.
Jamie Betts played right field for Charlottetown. Betts and Hardy, both members of the Summerside Chrysler Dodge Eagles, will join the Fawcetts for the senior men’s nationals in Charlottetown from Aug. 26 to 31.
“It was a real nice team building experience to have Jamie in his first time playing with us,” Arsenault said. “He fit like a glove. He’s a real high-energy guy.”
The Fawcetts dealt with some injuries on Sunday, including Betts (hamstring) and Dustan Jones bruised his ankle sliding into second base.
The Fawcetts are off to Quebec later this week for a tournament as they gear up to host nationals.
