Morell uses big seventh inning to defeat Stratford

The Northside Gill Construction Brewers held off the Sherwood Jays seventh-inning rally for a 7-6 victory Wednesday in Kings County Baseball League action.

Jason MacLean led the way at the plate with three hits while pitching a complete game six-hitter with eight strikeouts to earn the win.

The Brewers held a three-run lead entering the bottom of the seventh. The Jays scored twice and had a runner on first and second, but could not cash the equalizer.

Jed MacEwen was 2-for-4 and Mitch Ryan 1-for-1 with two RBIs for the Brewers.

Mike Waugh, Brodie Hughes and Scott Ramsay all went 1-for-3 for the Jays.

Travis Thibideau suffered the loss in relief of Clark Gallant and Chad Mackay.


Chevies 10 A's 3

The Morell Chevies exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a 4-3 game and drop the P.E.I. Brewing Company Athletics 10-3 in Stratford.

Quen Johnston tossed a complete game win, scattering seven hits, while Kyle MacDougall took the loss, holding the Chevies to just four hits through six innings before the seventh inning rally. He would be relieved by Adam Smith.

Scott Ellsworth, Jason Doyle, Jarrod Laybolt and Brad Larter all had two hits for the Chevies. Josh Kirkpatrick paced the A's with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in all three Stratford runs.

    What is going on with Stratford? I know they've lost some guys, but they don't look too impressive. When you can only put up a performance like that against an aging Quen Johnston, you're in deep doo-doo
