The P.E.I. Carpenters Union Juniors begin play in the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League on Saturday when they host Metro in a doubleheader.
Action begins at 1 p.m. at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall.
This is P.E.I.’s inaugural season in the league, which has teams in Moncton (Metro), Fredericton, Chatham and Saint John, who is the defending champions.
The Carpenter’s Union Juniors are comprised with players from Summerside to Georgetown.
Summerside’s Brady Arsenault will get the start in the home opener. Other members of the pitching staff are Tyson Blue, Jeremy Koughan, Dylan McQuaid, Colin Arsenault, Dylan Beck, Tyler Arsenault, Lucas Naugle and Nathan McInnis.
The offence will be led by Denver MacKenzie, Brady McQuaid, Nick MacPhail, Brad Power, Spencer Hay and Kip Ready.
The league will play a 24-game schedule ending July 27. The playoffs will consist of three rounds with a champion being crowned in late August.
There will be no admission charged at the Carpenters Union Juniors’ games.
