Stratford defeats Charlottetown 4-1
The Peakes Bombers grabbed a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five Kings County Baseball League semifinal with a 7-4 victory Sunday over the Morell Chevies.
The Chevies opened the scoring with solo home runs by Jarrod Laybolt and Scott Ellsworth in the top of the first inning.
Peakes responded with six runs in the third on seven hits.
The Chevies added two runs in the fifth on back-to-back home runs by Laybolt and Desi Doyle. The Bombers added an insurance run in the sixth inning.
Winning pitcher was Josh Coffin while Troy Coffin took the loss for the Chevies.
Game 3 is Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Morell.
Athletics 4, Jaya 1
Stratford 3 Points Aviation Athletics took a 1-0 series lead with a 4-1 win Sunday over the Charlottetown Jays.
Josh Kirpatrick threw a three-hitter in going the distance for the win while Dan O'Shea went the distance in taking the loss.
Randy Taylor and Shawn MacDougall had two hits each to lead the Athletics while Marshall Ellis chipped in a solo home run.
O'Shea led the Jays with two hits.
Game 2 goes Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Field.
