The Charlottetown AAA Royals will represent P.E.I. this weekend in Halifax at the Atlantic Bantam AAA Baseball Championships.

The Royals advanced to the Atlantics with a come-from-behind 7-4 victory Tuesday over the Kensington Crusaders. The provincial tournament was held during the weekend in Cornwall.

On Sunday, Kensington jumped ahead 4-0 over Charlottetown on the strength of three RBIs from Riley Gallant. Charlottetown scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull closer. In the bottom of the fifth, the rains came and forced the completion of the game to be put off until Tuesday night.

When play resumed, the Royals cashed in one run in the fifth before Cody McPhee’s two-run home run put the Royals on top. They added a couple more runs and reliever Porter Smith closed the game with a perfect seventh inning for the win.

Johnny Arsenault started on the mound for the Royals and Kyle Pinksen for the Crusaders and both pitched solid games.

Charlottetown will play Summerside Chevys for the provincial crown next week. The Chevys were ineligible to represent the province at the Atlantics as they had represented the province this summer at the nationals in Vaughn, Ont. The Chevys finished sixth.
