Islanders down Moncton Mets 8-5

MONCTON — The Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders brought their bats Monday  to beat the Moncton Mets 8-5 in New Brunswick Senior Baseball League action.

Tied at three runs after the first inning, The Islanders responded with three in the third inning, keyed by Dan O’Shea’s third RBI of the game and a two out double by Jeremy MacKinnon.

Mets starter Joel Arbeau went 4.2 innings giving up 7 runs on nine hits and three walks. Steve Aube finished the game for Moncton throwing 2.1 innings allowing one run and four hits.

Islanders starter Mike Thompson battled control over 5.1 innings allowing five runs five hits and nine walks.

Brody McDonald pitched two outs in the 6th. Andrew Macdonald had a three-up three-down 7th inning. For Moncton Serge Vautour was 2-2 with two RBIs. For the Islanders O’shea, Corcoran and Doyle had two hits each with Nick Cameron, McKinnon, Travis Gaudet, Nick Hann, Brody McDonald and Andrew Macdonald added a hit.

The 13 hits was the Islanders best hitting performance in over a month. The Islanders host Hub City tonight at 7:30 p.m., at Memorial field.
