The Gahan House Bud Light Fawcetts have clinched the first medal for P.E.I. at a Canadian senior men's fastpitch championship.

The hosts of the 10-team national tournament at the Central fields defeated Three Cheers Pub from Newfoundland and Labrador 1-0 on Friday afternoon, and can finish no worse than third.

Kevin Schellenberg's two-out single in the top of the second inning drove in Charlottetown's Chris Craig with the game's lone run. Alberton native Jeff Ellsworth threw out a Three Cheers Pub runner at the plate in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win. Trevor Ethier picked up the win on the mound. Winning pitcher Trevor Ethier scattered six hits and struck out four.

The Fawcetts (7-3) take on the Kitchener Rivershark Twins (10-0) at 7:30, with the winner advancing to Sunday's 2:30 p.m. championship game.
