Mason McDonald

Charlottetown Islanders goalie Mason McDonald is the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s third star for March.

The 19-year-old Halifax native had four victories with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage. He made 40 or more saves twice during the month.

On Saturday he won his fifth consecutive game to close out the regular season.

The win also tied MacDonald for the P.E.I. Rocket/Charlottetown Islanders franchise record for all time regular season wins by a goalie. McDonald, who has been with the Islanders since Dec. 29, 2013, shares the record of 54 wins with Ryan Mior, who played for the Rocket from 2003 to 2007. Evan Mosher, who played for the Rocket from 2006 to 2011, is third with 50.

He has a 21-15-3-0 record this season with a 3.33 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward Timo Meier and Gatineau Olympiques defenceman Alexandre Carrier were the first and second stars, respectively.
