P.E.I.'s top wrestlers will be in action this weekend as they compete at the Canadian championships.
Action begins today at UNB in Fredericton, N.B.
Summerside's Hannah Taylor will be competing in the junior division at 59 kilograms. Taylor - who was runner-up last year in the juvenile division, but later won the team trials event - will be in a field of 10 athletes. She is expected to match-up again with the Calgary Dinos Tianna Kennett, who defeated her in the decisive medal bout last year. Taylor will also wrestle in the senior division in the same weight category.
Winsloe's Veronica Keefe, a bronze medal winner in 2015 and two-time Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) gold medal winner at Concordia, will compete in the senior 75-kg division.
Ligrit Sadiku of Summerside will wrestle at junior 55 kg. Sadiku won a bronze medal at the recent CIS championships while wrestling for Western, and was named the CIS rookie of the year. Sadiku will be in a tough pool against national team members. He will also wrestle Greco Roman, where he won gold in 2015.
Charlottetown's Trevor Banks will also be competing in the senior 57-kg division. Banks recently concluded a fine varsity career at Concordia with a bronze medal. He won a silver medal last year and has been part of Concordia teams that won gold and bronze medals at the CIS championship.
