P.E.I. Sports Hall of Fame
Deadline is May 31
The P.E.I. Sports Hall of Fame is calling for nominees for its 2016 inductions.
Scheduled for late summer, the induction ceremony and dinner will recognize Island athletes, builders or teams that have brought great athletic distinction to the province.
Currently, the Hall has more than 175 members, with the 2015 inductions recognizing judo coach John Wilbert, racquetball athlete Lisa Devine and the 1991 Charlottetown Armour Fence Islanders, winners of the Allan Cup. Lorie Kane, recently announced to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, was inducted in 2014.
Criteria for induction states a builder must have given at least 10 years of outstanding service, an athlete must have been retired for at least five years, or be considered five years past their athletic peak, while teams which have enjoyed success either in the region or on the national stage, will be considered. Athletes and builders must have been either born in Prince Edward Island or have been considered a resident for at least four years at the height of their sporting career.
The deadline for nomination is Tuesday, May 31.
