The Pownal Red Devils overcame a 2-0 deficit after one period to win the opening game of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League final on Monday night.
The Red Devils scored three unanswered goals to edge the Western Regals 3-2 at the Pownal Sports Centre. Game 2 in the best-of-five series is scheduled for the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton on Thursday at 8 p.m., with Game 3 back in Pownal on Saturday at 8:10 p.m.
Connor Gray’s goal at the nine-minute mark of the third period proved to be difference in the opener.
Brayden Arsenault and Tyson Arsenault staked the Regals to a 2-0 lead after one period, but Gray and Connor Koughan pulled the Red Devils even in the middle frame.
Overall, the Regals outshot the Red Devils 49-41, including a 22-8 advantage in the first period. Pownal held a 21-12 shots-on-goal cushion in the third period.
Colby Landrigan earned the goaltending win over Bronson Banks.
