The Island Storm held on for a 108-106 win over the Halifax Hurricanes Friday in National Basketball League of Canada play at the Eastlink Centre.
The Storm led 23-16 after the first quarter, 49-37 at the half and 84-61 heading to the fourth.
The Hurricanes outscored the Storm 45-24 in the final 12 minutes, but ran out of time in their comeback bid.
Brent Jennings had 22 points to lead a Storm team, which received double-digit scoring nights from six players.
Rashad Whack had 16, Tirrell Baines and new centre Chad Posthumus each had 14 while Malcolm Grant and Terry Thomas both chipped in 12.
Justin Johnson had a game-high 28 for Halifax while Shane Gibson added 26.
Storm forward Brian Addison had 11 rebounds while Whack passed out six assists.
The Storm went 37-for-50 at the free-throw line while the Hurricanes were 24-for-30. The Storm's bench outscored Halifax's 44-20.
The Storm improved to 9-14 while the Hurricanes are 14-7.
The Storm travels to Moncton on Sunday to play the Miracles at 2 p.m.
