Charlottetown native Ellie Beck, a setter with the Trois-Rivieres Patriotes women's Division 2 volleyball team, was named rookie of the year in the Reseau du Sport Etudiant du Quebec (RSEQ).
Beck's head coach Marie-Eve Girouard said the first-year player had an immediate impact on the team while shifting from the power position to setter.
"She is a disciplined and engaged athlete. A physical player who likes to go to the net and surprise the opponent. Defensively, she provides a good stability on the block," said Girouard.
The Patriotes play in the provincial championships March 18 and 19. Beck is enrolled in the French studies program for non-francophones.
