The Athena girls defeated the host Kensington Torchettes 33-21 while the East Wiltshire boys pulled out a thrilling 34-33 win over the Hernewood Huskies in the two third-place games in the P.E.I. School Athletic Association (PEISAA) midget AA basketball championships.
Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School hosted the two-day event, which included the semifinal games played on Thursday.
Athena 33 Kensington 21
Lauren Lilly's 14-point effort led the Hawks. Lauren Sheppard (10) and Jane Doyle (6) were Athena's other top scorers while Callie Champion (10), Ellen Cole (4) and Abby Christopher (3) led Kensington.
Both defences dominated the first two quarters as Athena led 11-9 at the half.
East Wiltshire 34 Hernewood 33
In a back-and-forth game that had fans on the edge of their seats, Matt Mingo (9), Tyson Monaghan (8) and AJ Wilting (7) led East Wiltshire's balanced attack.
Logan Dawson had a strong effort in sinking 19 points for the Huskies while Jonathan Smith added nine and Jackson Burden had four.
Hernewood was in front 20-16 at halftime.
