Stonepark playing for gold medals in PEISAA basketball championships

KENSINGTON - The Summerside Intermediate School Owls have put themselves in a position to play for a provincial championship.

The Owls will face the Stonepark Tigers in the boys' gold-medal game in the P.E.I. School Athletic Association (PEISAA) midget AA basketball championships on Saturday afternoon.


In semifinal action Thursday, the Owls posted a 57-52 come-from-behind win over the East Wiltshire Warriors while the Tigers topped the Hernewood Huskies 65-23.

In girls' play, Stonepark defeated Athena 55-14 and will face East Wiltshire in the final. East Wiltshire won 37-26 over the host Kensington Torchettes in the first game of the day.

All games in the provincial championship are being played at Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School.


Summerside Intermediate 57 East Wiltshire 52

Cameron Wall and Ben MacDougall held the hot hands for Summerside Intermediate, which overcame a 28-24 deficit at halftime in the closest game of the day. Wall poured in 26 points while MacDougall was credited with 21. Kolby Waugh added six points to the Summerside Intermediate attack.

Tyson Monaghan (14), AJ Wilting (12) and Spencer Gill (4) were the leading point-getters for East Wiltshire.

Stonepark 65 Hernewood 23

Logan MacCallum scored 16 points to lead Stonepark, which was in control throughout the game.

Dan Willis (12) and Will Vidito (10) were Stonepark's other top scorers

Logan Dawson (11), Dawson Richard (5) and Ryan Leard (3) were the top offensive producers for Hernewood.

Stonepark led 37-9 at the half.


East Wiltshire 37 Kensington 26

East Wiltshire jumped out to an early lead and took a 25-12 advantage into the intermission.

Sarah LeClair led East Wiltshire with 11 points while Mary Lowther and Hope Muttart each contributed 10.

For the host Torchettes, Emily MacDonald (12), Hillary MacLean (8), Ellen Cole (4) and Hannah LeClair (4) were the top point-getters.

Stonepark 55 Athena 14

Julia Freeburn's 15-point effort sparked Stonepark, which built a 24-6 lead at halftime.

Devon Lawlor (12) and Brynn Essery (10) also scored in double digits for Stonepark.

Lauren Lilly (8), Elizabeth Matheson (2), Lauren Sheppard (2) and Lauren MacLean (2) were Athena's top scorers.
