Mixed curling championships start Friday in Alberton

The Western Community Curling Club in Alberton is hosting the P.E.I. mixed curling championships this weekend.

ALBERTON - Three members of last year's winning team are back together for the 2016 P.E.I. mixed curling championship.

The event starts at the Western Community Curling Club on Friday.

Tyler MacKenzie has moved up from second stone last year to skip the defending-champion's rink this year.

Chloe McCloskey and Megan Wile continue to play the mate and lead positions on the Charlottetown Curling Complex team. New to the team this year and playing second stone is Sean Clarey.

Last year's championship skip, Eddie MacKenzie, is not participating.

Ian MacMillan skips one of the two teams from the host club while Sharon Horne skips the other, but with Leslie Noye throwing fourth stones.

Veronica Smith, Crapaud/Cornwall; Cody Dixon, Montague/Crapaud; Paul Morrison and Larry Richards, Montague; Jody Jackson, Charlottetown, and Jamie Newson, Charlottetown/Crapaud, skip other teams entered.

The winning team from the modified triple-knockout championship will represent P.E.I. at the 2017 Canadian mixed curling championship in Yarmouth, N.S., from Nov. 14 to 19.
