Turnovers costly as UPEI men lose at Dalhousie

Matt McVeigh had 18 points to pace the Dalhousie Tigers to a 94-81 win over the UPEI Panthers Saturday in Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball action.

The win gives the Tigers the conference’s regular season title with a 13-6 record and 38 points. The Panthers are currently in second place with a 12-7 record and 34 points with a game at UNB (10-8, 28 points) to play on Friday.

On Saturday, the host Tigers had six players score 10 or more points, including Sven Stammberger, who had 13 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Tyler Scott had 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Panthers. Amin Suleman and Lorenzo Parker each scored 11.

The Panthers turned the ball over 19 times compared to the Tigers 11. Dalhousie turned those UPEI turnovers into 24 points.

UPEI led 19-14 after the first quarter but trailed 43-39 at the half and 72-65 heading to the fourth.
