Island athletes earned seven gold medal at Eastern Canadians

Seven Island athletes won gold medals during the weekend at the Eastern Canadian wrestling championship in Fredericton, N.B.

Hannah Taylor, Ben Tanton, Allie Collings, Noah Dailey, Rory Gaudet, Kamryn Shea and Jason Reeves won their categories while Trey Vancolen earned a silver and Nolan O'Rouke took home a bronze.

Some of the athletes could represent Prince Edward Island at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg.

Island athletes competing in the event were from the Summerside Wolfpack, IWA Charlottetown Club and Montague Red Rock clubs.

Also in Fredericton during the weekend was the UNB Wrestling Invitational where  Charlottetown's Trevor Banks won gold in the 54-kilogram category. The Concordia Stinger's weekend included a win over UNB's Mario Tran.

Montague Red Rock athletes Jason Reeves and Steven Clark won bronze medals in the 61- and 76-kilogram categories, respectively.
