Basketball’s Tamara Tompkins and hockey’s Matt Mahalak are this week’s UPEI Panther Subway athletes of the week.

Tompkins, a fifth-year kinesiology student from Centreville, N.B., averaged 11 points on 41 per cent shooting from the field during the Panthers 94-52 and 63-50 losses to Cape Breton during the weekend.

Tompkins was 7-for-7 from the free-throw line and averaged five rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Mahalak, a second-year business administration student from Monroe, Mich., recorded a combined 83 saves in the Panthers 2-1 loss to UNB and 6-3 win over St. Thomas.

Mahalak’s save percentage (.916) is second in the league while his goals against average (2.76) is sixth.
