The Saint Mary’s Huskies took their first lead in the third quarter against the UPEI Panthers and never gave it back in winning 67-52.

The Panthers led 12-8 after the first quarter and 32-26 at the half, but trailed 44-40 going to the fourth.

"We did a pretty good job, I thought, in the first half,” Panthers head coach Greg Gould said. "Second half, I thought we did a pretty good job of getting to the basket, we just didn't get anything out of it.

“We either didn't finish or couldn't get to the free-throw line. We played them a week ago and shot 25 free throws. We shot seven free throws tonight. I guess we’re not doing a real good job of creating the contact that we created a week ago.”

Jenny Lewis led the way with 14 points off the bench for the Huskies while Rachelle Coward had 13 points and Shanieka Wood chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds.

“They have a lot of offensive weapons,” Gould said.

Kiera Rigby went 3-for-4 from behind the three-point line to pace the Panthers with 13 points while Angenay Williams had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block in her Panthers debut. Tamara Tompkins had nine points and six rebounds while Jane McLaughlin added seven points and 12 boards while Katie Donahoe had seven points, eight assists and five rebounds.

The Huskies improved to 7-1 while UPEI falls to 2-6. Saturday’s game was worth four points.
