Panthers defeat Raven at holiday classic basketball tournament

The UPEI Panthers exploded in the third quarter Monday in defeating the Carleton Ravens 66-63 at the Thunder Selects Holiday Classic basketball tournament in Halifax.

The Panthers scored 27 points in the third, surpassing their 26-point total in the first two quarters.

Angenay Williams led the Panthers with 22 points. The five-foot-nine forward from Chicago had to sit out the first semester as a transfer student. She is in her fourth year of eligibility.


Panthers forward Jane McLaughlin had 13 points and seven rebounds while Tamara Tompkins had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Point guard Katie Donahoe had eight points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Stephanie Carr had 16 points off the bench for Carleton.

The Ravens held quarter leads of 11-10 and 27-26 before the Panthers went up 53-42 heading to the fourth.

The Panthers play the Saint Mary’s Huskies at 7 p.m.
