Hurricanes end 2015 by sweeping Tommies

The Holland College Hurricanes ended 2015 with a perfect record.

The men's basketball team defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 95-64 Sunday in Fredericton, N.B.

Trevone Grant led the way with 18 points while Jayden Nordin had 17 and Roosevelt (Chicken) Whyley added 16. Ben Cripps led the Tommies with 19 points.

Holland College held quarter leads of 32-17, 56-33 and 75-50.

The Hurricanes are 7-0 while the University of King's College Blue Devils (7-1) are in second place.

The Hurricanes return to the court on Jan. 9 when they visit the Dalhousie AC Rams in Bible Hill, N.S.

The women's ‘Canes used quarter leads of 20-15, 42-26 and 61-38 en route to a win of 77-54 on Sunday.

Jazlin Barker and Jenea Barrett each had 21 points while Marvia Dean had 20 and added 11 rebounds for the ‘Canes. Ashley Moss chipped in 15 rebounds and five points.

Charlottetown native Jessica Patenaude was the Tommies leading scorer with 21 points.

The win improves the Hurricanes to 6-1, good for second place behind the 6-0 Mount Allison Mounties.

The women's ‘Canes return to action on Jan. 10 when they visit the Mounties in Sackville, N.B.
