Williams played for team in inaugural season
The Island Storm has added a low post threat with the signing of Mike Williams.
The six-foot-eight power forward/centre from Camden, Ala., played with the Storm during their inaugural season in 2011-12. He led the team in almost every offensive and rebounding category while finishing 11th in league scoring with more than 16 points per game, fourth in field goal percentage at 50 per cent per game, second in total rebounds and first in offensive rebounding.
Head coach Joe Salerno announced the signing on Saturday.
“He is one of the hardest working, most dominant inside players I have had the chance to work with. His ability to score the basketball from 17 feet and in is second to none,” he said.
“To pair that with some of the talent we have on the perimeter is going to be very tough for opposing teams to defend. He will be an instant crowd favorite for his work ethic and blue-collar attitude. This could be the final piece that puts us over the top.”
Coming out of high school Williams played in the McDonalds All-American and Nike Hoop Summit games in 2004.
Williams has played the last two seasons in Central and South America.
