Former NCAA Division 1 guard Rashad Whack is the latest signee by the Island Storm.
The six-foot-three shooter led Mount St. Mary’s University with 17.6 points per game last season, good for fourth in scoring in the Northeast Conference (NEC). He also guided the team to the NEC championship and a berth in the NCAA Division 1 national tournament where the Mountaineers lost to Albany in the first round.
It's Whack's first season in the National Baseball League of Canada.
"I had the opportunity to watch Rashad over the course of three days in Philadelphia this summer and he was playing in a pro-am with NBA players and in my opinion was one of the most consistent and well-rounded players there," said Joe Salerno, Storm head coach in a release.
"I think Rashad, as a true rookie, has the potential to have an immediate impact on our organization and the NBL in general. We are very excited to get him into camp and see what he is capable of at the next level in his career.”
Whack also finished fifth in three-point shots made and percentage last season and was named a second team NEC all-star.
“This is truly a blessing and I am thankful and honoured for this opportunity,” said Whack. "I’d like to thank coach Joe Salerno and the Island Storm organization for having interest in me and giving me this opportunity. I will do whatever is needed of me to help this team be successful this season."
Training camp is expected to start mid-October.
